From Home Furnishing Business

Longtime Sales, Marketing Executive Hal McAdams Jr. Dies

Industry veteran Hal Lee McAdams Jr. passed away on Dec. 8, leaving a legacy that touched many in the home furnishings industry.

Born in Graham, N.C., he worked in sales and marketing at Founders Furniture, Thomasville Furniture and Davis Cabinet Company before serving as president of Hickory White.

Most recently, he worked with Lexington Home Brands, assisting them in the strategic development of their interior design channel.

He graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with degrees in business and history and served as a U.S. Army medic in Vietnam.

“Hal has been a valued mentor of mine for many years,” said Phil Haney, president and CEO of Lexington Home Brands. “His remarkable sense of style, deep understanding of the industry, and infectious enthusiasm for promoting the role of design in home furnishings made him an important voice in the evolution of furniture manufacturing from commodity product to a design and style focus.

“On a personal level, Hal had the ability to connect with people in a way that drew them into the process through his sheer passion for the business. I will miss him as a friend, mentor and business partner, as will the entire team here at Lexington.”

Hal was an avid golfer and member of the Greensboro Country Club, an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, a lifelong Carolina fan, and widely acclaimed as one of the most dapper dressers in the industry.

He is survived by his wife, Sheri; three children, Mac, Emily and Sara; five grandchildren; and a sister, Anne. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice and Palliative Care in Greensboro, N.C., or the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center in Chapel Hill, N.C.
