Scheffer Elected Chairman of Market Authority Board

Scheffer, previously the board’s vice chairman, is replacing Doug Bassett, who had been board chairman since 2012. Bassett will remain on the board as the immediate past chairman, government liaison chairman and a non-voting member of both the executive committee and board.

"I'm fortunate to follow in the footsteps of Doug Bassett, who's done an outstanding job as board chair,” said Scheffer. “His leadership, along with the work and guidance of our outgoing board members, makes us well positioned to move the Market forward."

At its most recent meeting, the board also approved an expansion of the executive committee from five to seven, adding Heinz Kattenfeld, chief operating officer of 220 Elm, and Rod Lambeth, CEO of Tomlinson/Erwin-Lambeth, to the committee. Dudley Moore, Jr., president of Otto & Moore Furniture, will also join the executive committee as the board’s new vice chairman.

During the meeting, the board welcomed two new members, Scott Knox, president of Greensboro, N.C. retailer Priba Furniture, and Bill Wittenberg, president of Klaussner Furniture.

Two outgoing members, Abe Elmore, founder of Dunn, N.C. retailer Elmore Furniture, and John Gunter, president and CEO of Raleigh, N.C. retailer Home Comfort Furniture & Mattress Center, were recognized for their service.
