Natuzzi Earns FSC Certification for Operations in 3 Countries

Leather upholstery major Natuzzi (NTZ), the largest Italian furniture company, has received certification from the Forest Stewardship Council.

The FSC Chain-of-Custody certification ensures consumers that the raw materials used to make wooden products come from well-managed forests, respecting the social, economic and environmental needs of present and future generations, Natuzzi officials said.

In addition to the company's operations in Italy, the FSC certification covers production and trading sites based in China and Romania. Beyond the production of sofas and armchairs, the Natuzzi plant in Baia Mare, Romania, houses a large industrial woodworking facility for the procurement and processing of raw wood into finished materials for the entire company.

"The FSC certification confirms our strong commitment to a crucial issue that is the environmental protection," said Natuzzi Chairman and CEO Pasquale Natuzzi. "The use of photovoltaic energy, low environmental impact technologies, natural materials such as wood and leather, stringent corporate policies on deforestation, and environmental and quality certifications are all actions that protect the environment and point to a target consumers looking for a beautiful and functional, but also sustainable design."

He said the FSC certification is in addition to the ISO 9001 - 14001 (Quality and Environment) and OHSAS 18001 (Safety in the Workplace) certifications received previously.
