Airbed manufacturer and retailer Select Comfort (SCSS) has joined the bed-in-a-box fray with the launch of the “it bed,” a new model aimed at tech-savvy consumers that includes biometric sensors for tracking sleep.
The new bed, which is being sold under the company’s flagship Sleep Number brand, will be available beginning Monday at www.itbed.com, and is priced at $1,099 in queen. Orders will be delivered to the consumer’s home within five business days.
The company said the comfort level of the bed can be adjusted on each side through a smart phone app. It also utilizes Select Comfort’s proprietary Sleep IQ technology, which connects the bed to a variety of health and fitness apps, including Fitbit, Map My Run and Nest Learning Thermostat.
“Your phone is smart, your TV is connected and your car has integrated apps; now it’s time technology helped people sleep better. We are redefining what people should expect from their bed,” said Shelly Ibach, President and CEO of Select Comfort. “The ‘it bed’ delivers an effortless buying and sleep experience. With this new brand, we are excited to offer the individualized benefits of a Sleep Number bed to a whole new generation of customers.”
The company said its Sleep IQ technology continuously gathers hundreds of readings per second, monitoring sleep-critical variables such as heart rate, motion and breathing. A proprietary algorithm delivers a personal Sleep IQ score each night, which indicates sleep quality.
Over time, Sleep IQ technology learns each person’s comfort preferences, understands how physical activity and sleep environment affects their sleep quality, and offers personalized insights for a better night’s sleep.
“Not all sleep is created equal,” said Annie Bloomquist, senior vice president and chief product officer. “By tracking and managing sleep-critical biometric data – and simultaneously connecting to popular health, home and environmental apps – the ‘it bed’ is the future of sleep.”
