Jaipur Living Expansion Bringing Jobs to Acworth

Jaipur Living will be breaking ground on Tuesday on its’ $22.3 million facility and expects to bring about 100 jobs to the Acworth, Georgia area next year.

The company, which currently employs 89 people in Norcross, plans to spend $14 million building a new 180,000 square-foot headquarters and warehouse in Cherokee County by May 2017. The county will provide $500,000 in property tax incentives over the course of 10 years and a waiver of $70,000 in impact fees, according to a representative from the company.

A second-phase expansion, expected to cost $8 million, will add another 170,000 square feet. It is expected to be complete by 2020, bringing another 30 to 45 jobs, the company said.

According to CEO Asha Chaudhary, the company has “simply outgrown our existing facilities.”

Chaudhary took over the family business from her father and built it into a major supplier of hand-crafted textiles to Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, Restoration Hardware as well as other national retailers, growing it from $2.8 million in revenue a decade ago to $37 million last year.

Previously called Jaipur Rugs Co., the firm recently changed its name to Jaipur Living after adding a broader range of home furnishings and textiles. While about 70 percent of its products are hand-made by a network of about 50,000 artisans in India, the company said it also markets machine-manufactured rugs, pillows and other items from the United States, Turkey, Belgium and China.

Jaipur Living’s new location will be a one hour drive from its current headquarters and warehouse in Norcross, which has been sold. Chaudhary said she hopes to keep the company’s workforce intact, and expects at least 60 percent to make the move.

“Our existing team has been truly integral to our growth and our aim is to transition every one of our team members who are able to make this move with us,” she said.
