Les Flippo, 86, Dies

Furniture industry veteran Leslie “Les” Flippo has died. He was 86.
Flippo held a number of positions within the furniture industry before retiring from Universal Leather in 2012.
Born in Queens, N.Y., Flippo grew up in Buchanan, Va., and Covington, Va. He attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute when it was a military school. He relocated to Detroit with his parents, met his wife Gilda, and eventually moved to High Point.
Flippo is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gilda, his daughter, Linda, three grandchildren, Caitlin, Daphne, and Wells, and great-grandson, Declan Wyett, his two brothers and sister.
A funeral service will be held at Sechrest Funeral Service in High Point Friday at 1 p.m. preceded by a viewing and time to greet the family beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will be for family only. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, The Cancer Center, and The Nature Conservancy.
