Whitewood Buys High Point Facility
Whitewood Inds., parent company to John Thomas Furniture, has acquired a 40,000 square-foot facility in High Point to expand its Select custom finish program.
The facility, formally Arpel Leather, located at 1004 Old Thomasville Road, is strategically located three miles from the company’s other campuses and takes the company’s total operational foot print to just over 500,000 square feet.
According to Bryan Sprinkles, John Thomas sales and marketing manager, the expansion has been in process for some time.
“Finding the optimum building in location and size, conducive to finishing efficiencies, proved to be a challenge,” Sprinkles said. “We are thrilled to have found this facility and are excited about reducing our ship times to their original slated 30-day turnaround for customers; something we’ve unfortunately been missing due to the program’s rapid growth.”
The acquisition is in direct demand to meet the program’s growth and expansion into whole home products, heavily distressed finishes, and the recently added online digital draping feature that enables shoppers on-site, at retail, to view furnishings in a chosen finish.
“Our sales team and retail partners have truly embraced all we have to offer,” Sprinkles said. “With this new facility we’ll be able to consistently offer 30-day turnaround on orders.”
Introduced in 2007, Select offers a mix-and-match assortment of solid wood product.
Expansion will take place in stages. Stage one will immediately increase capacity by about 60 percent by early spring. Stage two will double the company’s current output by end of summer. It is also estimated, that the expansion will add 30 to 40 job opportunities for local residents.
“We are extremely excited to make this announcement,” Sprinkles said. “We would be remiss not to express a sincere thank you to all our valued retail partners for their continued support in making this happen. We work with the best in the business.”
