Wayfair Rolls Back Get It Near Me

Online retailer Wayfair (NYSE: W) has shuttered its Get It Near Me marketing program that was created to drive traffic to local furniture stores.
The company notified partner retailers earlier this week via e-mail that “all campaigns will be deactivated” beginning Sept. 1.
Created in August 2009, the Get It Near Me program blurred the line between competitor and collaborator. The program delivered consumers—some who were leery of buying online—to partner brick-and-mortar retailers to complete the sale.
Wayfair told partner retailers that “any unused funds in your account will be charged back to your credit card on record” by Sept. 30.
Jane Carpenter, director of public relations for the company, said the move was made to better serve Wayfair’s customers.
“We have found that our customers prefer other information and resources as part of the shopping experience so we are now using that limited online space in a way that better addresses customer interest,” she said.
