Kirksey Bros. Furniture Owner Dies

Aletha Ivy Kirksey, owner of Kirksey Brothers Furniture in Tupelo, Miss., has died. She was 93.

Kirksey married Robert Bruce "Nubbin" Kirksey in 1944. In l946, brothers R.B. and E.B. Kirksey opened Kirksey Brothers Furniture at 308 Spring St. in Tupelo, where it remains today.

When Aletha's husband, Nubbin, died in l972, she stepped in and became an equal partner in the business with her brother-in-law. At her death, she was sole owner with the assistance of her daughters, Analyn and Sydney. Kirksey shared the philosophy that the store was an extension of her home—it must be clean, dusted and always presentable. A former golfer, bridge player, and member of the Junior Woman's Club, Kirksey was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Tupelo. She enjoyed traveling, including abroad.

Survivors include her daughters, Analyn Kirksey and her husband, Sammy Perryman and Sydney Kirksey and her husband, Jimmy McClure, all of Tupelo; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
