Bedding supplier Kingsdown has signed a licensing agreement with Roth Bedding Technology International Limited to open 500 stores in China over the next five years.
The partnership calls for 65 stores to open this year, two of which opened this month. Under the agreement, the stores will sell exclusively Kingsdown mattresses and furniture produced by Roth.
The Chinese market is not new to Kingsdown. The company’s 2012 introduction of its Sleep to Live and bedMatch brands to the market has been successful.
The partnership with Roth to create branded stores will enhance the Kingsdown brand presence in China by taking advantage of the demand for the line.
"We have enjoyed a fantastic reception in China over the past few years but saw an even greater opportunity to really capture the country's luxury consumer,” said Frank Hood, Kingstown president and CEO. “This partnership with Roth Bedding is the boldest relationship ever entered into by our company and we are thrilled to have found an organization that enjoys an equally ideal reputation for their attention to detail, high quality and service.”
Roth is based in Hong Kong.
"We believe there is a tremendous opportunity to serve the Chinese market with fine Kingsdown product and are extremely excited to further Kingsdown's presence with a substantial 500 stores,” said Jie Du, general manager of Roth Bedding. “The company's focus on styling, quality and groundbreaking research to deliver a more luxurious night's sleep is a differentiator that will be appreciated by our consumers.”
