The fast-moving e-commerce retailer Wayfair (NYSE: W) is moving into the custom upholstery business.
The company’s custom business will offer options on more than 100 styles of made-in-the-U.S. upholstery. Consumers can choose from up to 20 fabric swatches to upholstery purchases.
“Traditionally, custom furniture hasn’t been a realistic option for many people due to high price points, limited access and long wait times,” said Niraj Shah, Wayfair CEO, co-chairman and co-founder. “We are excited to change all of that and redefine what is possible for home with the launch of the Wayfair Custom Upholstery program.”
Custom furniture pieces are available in 12 to 20 fabrics varying by product with new fabrics expected to be introduced twice a year. Sofa prices begin at $799 and sofa sleeper prices at $999. Custom pieces ship within three weeks of order.
“When it comes to furniture and décor, we know that people want selection and love to put their personal touch on the items they bring into their homes,” Shah said. “The new Wayfair Custom Upholstery program delivers the quality, selection, speed and value that Wayfair is known for along with the ability for each shopper to bring their unique style and vision to life.”
