Upholstery producer United Furniture Inds. will open its latest manufacturing facility in Verona, Miss., by the middle of February.
The project represents a $2.75 million corporate investment and will create 300 new jobs, taking United’s total employment in Mississippi to 2,000.
The factory, a former Lane Furniture plant, will be the company’s sixth location in Mississippi. The company operates in Amory, Miss.; Hatley, Miss.; Nettleton, Miss.; Okolona, Miss.; and Vardaman, Miss.
The Verona plant will help the company accommodate increased demand. United also operates facilities in Winston-Salem, N.C., Trinity, N.C.; Lexington, N.C.; and Archdale, N.C., along with a West Coast operation in Victorville, Calif.
Created in 2000 through the merger and acquisitions of Parkhill Furniture Co., Comfort Furniture and United Chair, United Furniture has been on a growth trajectory over the last few years building its manufacturing and warehouse space to more than 4 million square feet.
“For 15 years, United Furniture has been a valued member of Mississippi’s business community and furniture industry,” said Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant. “Throughout that time, the company has grown tremendously … That is a strong testament to the productive workforce and supportive business climate we strive to provide throughout the state. I wish the company many more years of success in northeast Mississippi.”
The company is accepting applications online or at the company’s Amory, Miss., location.
“We would like to thank the Governor, MDA, TVA, the CDF and all others involved in helping put this project together,” said Doug Hanby, CFO of United Furniture. “We are excited to expand our manufacturing presence in northeast Mississippi. We plan to begin some production in mid-February and are looking to start hiring in the next few days.”
