Furniture Rep John Sparger Jr. Dies

Longtime independent furniture sales representative John Whitfield Sparger Jr., 63, died last Thursday at Missions Hospital in Asheville, N.C.
Sparger, who is remembered as a consummate sales professional with a passion for life, recently attended his 80th High Point Furniture Market. His 30-plus-year career included representing Bassett Furniture, Trendline Furniture (national sales manager), Stratford Furniture (regional sales manager), Southern Furniture, Ligna, Chateau D'Ax and Fjords/Hjellegjerde.
"John was a true gentleman and a great human being," said Fjords USA President Dan Houck. "I am honored not only to have worked him, but to call him a friend."
Sparger's survivors include his wife, Sheila Dawson Sparger of Hickory, N.C.; his sons John Whitfield Sparger III and his wife, Sofie; Chris Walling and wife, Angela; John Daniel Walling IV and wife, Kathleen Waller; and his beloved English bull dog, Otis.
A memorial service was held Wednesday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hickory. Condolences may be made online here; and a memorial fund benefits Sparger's family.
