Art Van's Selfies for Sofas

Art Van, Warren, Mich., is inviting the public to strike a pose and take a selfie (or more accurately, a "sofie") on a stylish new Art Van sofa for a chance to win one of their own from the retailer.

On Thursday, Sept. 18, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Rosa Parks Circle (Monroe Center and Monroe Avenue) will be transformed into a comfortable outdoor lounge with a dozen contemporary Art Van sofas. Guests can pose for their close up alone, with friends, or with Nigel Barker, the photographer, celebrity host of "The Face" on the Oxygen Network, and Art Van style maker. The event also will feature music and the first 1,000 guests will receive gift bags containing the catalog.

The picture-taking participants must then tag their Art Van sofie with the hashtags #ArtVan and #SofaSelfie; and post it on their personal Twitter, Facebook and/or Instagram social media sites. Art Van Furniture also is hosting similar events with Nigel Barker in Detroit and Chicago.

Individuals who are unable to attend the events can enter the contest by taking a selfie on a sofa at their local Art Van Furniture store. The top 55 contestants receiving the most retweets, shares and likes by Sept. 30 will win a new sofa from Art Van Furniture. Also, 300 guests will have the opportunity to play "Musical Couches in the Circle" (a takeoff on musical chairs), and the last person sitting will receive a $1,000 Art Van gift card.

"Nigel Barker shared his creative vision and extraordinary talent while shooting both our spring and fall 2014 catalogs, and we wanted to have some fun by putting him in front of instead of behind the camera," said Art Van Elslander, founder and chairman of Art Van Furniture. "Everyone knows that Nigel is the 'king of the selfie,' and now he will also be known as the 'star of the sofie.'"

Art Van Furniture's inspiration-filled 2014 Fall Style Catalog introduces its eclectic new Urban Living Collection and features Hilary Farr, global interior design icon and cohost of Love It or List It on HGTV, on the cover.

The complimentary, 144-page catalog will be available at all Art Van Furniture locations in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio while supplies last. The catalog, as well as the sofie contest rules, will also appear online at artvan.com.
