Darrell Harris, 71, Dies

A. Darrell Harris, founder and CEO of Furnitureland South in Jamestown, N.C., has died. He was 71.

Funeral services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Green Street Baptist Church in High Point. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.

Harris was born in High Point in 1943 and attended and graduated from Gardner-Webb College. Harris married his wife Stella Sutton Harris in 1964 and later served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

The Harrises founded Furnitureland South in 1969. In 2010, Darrell Harris was inducted into the American Furniture Hall of Fame. His company has been one of the top 50 furniture retailers for more than 25 years. 

Harris is survived by his wife Stella; Jeffrey and Stacey Harris, their children, Sydney, Tanner and Kendall; Jason and Jennifer Harris, their children Caroline, Lindsay, Sarah Parker, Jace, and Sophie; his brother Dennis Harris; and his sister Judy Johnson.
