Decorum Furniture to Focus on Norfolk, Close Va. Beach

Norfolk, Va.-based Decorum Furniture has decided to shutter its Virginia Beach location and focus on its home store.
Decorum Furniture, a local retailer of contemporary home decor, is closing its Virginia Beach store after 17 years as sales have slowed, its owner said.
Claus Ihlemann, who opened Decorum in Norfolk in 1975, said the lease on his second location at The Shops at Hilltop expires at the end of January, and he decided against renewing it. Amid an overall decline in business, he said, he could turn the Norfolk store on West 21st Street into more of a destination by consolidating operations there.
“It does not make economic sense to have two stores,” Ihlemann said.
