Ashley Furniture's manufacturing and distribution center in North Carolina is on track for completion by October, and the company says it is fast tracking its employment figures of the site.
Despite extensive delays with a more than 1 million-square-foot expansion of its Davie County manufacturing and distribution center, Ashley Furniture Industries Inc. expects the project to be completed by October and to have as many as 750 workers at the facility by the end of 2014 — a hiring pace that is much faster than originally expected.
The Arcadia, Wis.-based company originally said in 2012 that it would have 550 workers to the facility in Advance over a five-year period, or by 2017.
Ashley selected the 640-acre site in Advance for its mid-Atlantic manufacturing and distribution facility in 2011. About 418,000 square feet of warehouse space from a former R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. complex were put into use late that year, followed by the start of construction of the expansion.
