Surya Celebrates Growth at Market

By Home Furnishings Business in on October 12, 2010 Rug and decorative accessories supplier Surya will celebrate its growth in its High Point Market showroom throughout the upcoming market.

The company will feature daily events in its showroom at Showplace 3233, including catered breakfasts and lunches, evening cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, and drawings for cash, iPads, http://www.apple.com/ipad airline tickets and merchandise.

Since 2004, the company said it has had a tenfold increase in business, with double-digit growth each year. For 2010, company sales dollars are up 52 percent.

€œOur customers have made us the company we are today," said Satya Tiwari, Surya president. €œThe best ideas and practices we have implemented have come directly from listening to our customers and trying to solve their needs. We wanted to show our appreciation for their passionate support by making their trip to High Point as fun and relaxing as possible.€

Surya is a vertically integrated manufacturing company established in India in 1976. The company currently exhibits in Atlanta, High Point, Las Vegas, New Delhi, and New York.

Spencer Gets Credit Manager Nod from FMCA

By Home Furnishings Business in Case Goods on October 12, 2010 Brian Spencer received the Central North Carolina Credit Manager of the Year Award during the Furniture Manufacturers Credit Association annual meeting in Chicago in late last month.

"Brian is a very deserving recipient of this award," Jim D. Bumgarner, executive vice president and general manager of the FMCA. "He is admired and respected by his peers in the furniture industry. Having been in the furniture credit industry for over 30 years, Brian is one of the most knowledgeable, professional, and likeable credit managers I have known. He deserves all the accolades and recognition of his accomplishments and awards."

Spencer was also elected as vice chairperson of the FMCA Central North Carolina Group, which will place him next in line for leadership of that group. Home Meridian International was one of the winners of the Heritage Award. 

The FMCA has provided specialized services to the industry for over 49 years. FMCA helps Member companies track the performance of over 300,000 furniture dealers, brokers, and resellers worldwide. Members cooperatively share performance information that supports their day to day decision making.

HMI is a privately held global design, sourcing and marketing company headquartered in High Point. The company operates distribution centers on both coasts, and is the parent company of Pulaski Furniture, Samuel Lawrence Furniture, Samuel Lawrence Hospitality, Creations baby  and Prime Resources International. 

Gardner-White Prevents TV Blackout of Lions

Warren, Mich.-based Gardner-White Furniture stepped in at the last minute last week to ensure area Detroit Lions' fans could view Sunday's gridiron match with the St. Louis Rams by buying all remaining tickets to the game.

The move prevented a television blackout and fans who didn't make it to the game watched the Lions defeat the Rams with a 44-6 score.

The retailer then turned around an offered consumers making a purchase two tickets to the game. The retailer also invited consumers to the store to watch the game on each of its big screen televisions in its stores.

"We know how much fans around here love our Lions and we do too," said Steve Tracey, president.

MacKenzie-Dow Opens Retail Shop at The Greenbrier

By Home Furnishings Business in Case Goods on October 11, 2010 Case goods manufacturer MacKenzie-Dow Fine Furniture opened a retail shop in the Art Colony at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., earlier this summer.

The Huntington, W.Va.-based manufacturer of high-end, domestically produced furniture opened over Memorial Day weekend, and company President Gary Adams said sales have been brisk throughout the first four months of operations. The shop is managed by local resident and interior designer Aimee Hanna.

The store services resort guests, members of The Greenbrier Sporting Club and local residents. In addition to MacKenzie-Dow products, other vendors include Wesley Hall, Cox Interiors and assorted accessory lines.

"I have quite an array of items,€ said Hanna, who has 12 years of experience buying and managing other stores at The Greenbrier. €œIn addition to case goods and upholstery, we offer lighting, floral, artwork, rugs and pillows.€

"The Art Colony is located on Alabama Row, a short five-minute walk from the hotel. €œThe view from our porch,€ Hanna said, €œis perhaps the best on the property, as we overlook the Springhouse, which housed the original sulphur baths that drew the first visitors to the resort. The Art Colony has seven stores connected by a common covered porch. The space where the shop is located consists of three rooms that were separate cottages for guests dating back to 1837.€

MacKenzie-Dow Fine Furniture is entering its 18th High Point Market this month, and services retailers, trade showrooms, and interior designers throughout the United States and Canada. Thirty-five percent of its production consists of custom modification to its catalogued items, and all of its furniture is hand-crafted in America.
