MacKenzie-Dow Fine Furniture opened a retail shop in the Art Colony at
The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., earlier this summer.
The Huntington, W.Va.-based manufacturer of high-end, domestically produced furniture opened over Memorial Day weekend, and company President Gary Adams said sales have been brisk throughout the first four months of operations. The shop is managed by local resident and interior designer Aimee Hanna.
The store services resort guests, members of The Greenbrier Sporting Club and local residents. In addition to MacKenzie-Dow products, other vendors include
Wesley Hall, Cox Interiors and assorted accessory lines.
"I have quite an array of items, said Hanna, who has 12 years of experience buying and managing other stores at The Greenbrier. In addition to case goods and upholstery, we offer lighting, floral, artwork, rugs and pillows.
"The Art Colony is located on Alabama Row, a short five-minute walk from the hotel. The view from our porch, Hanna said, is perhaps the best on the property, as we overlook the Springhouse, which housed the original sulphur baths that drew the first visitors to the resort. The Art Colony has seven stores connected by a common covered porch. The space where the shop is located consists of three rooms that were separate cottages for guests dating back to 1837.
MacKenzie-Dow Fine Furniture is entering its 18th High Point Market this month, and services retailers, trade showrooms, and interior designers throughout the United States and Canada. Thirty-five percent of its production consists of custom modification to its catalogued items, and all of its furniture is hand-crafted in America.
