Furnitureland South, the world's largest furniture retail showroom, is raising money and awareness for the fight against breast cancer.
Jamestown, N.C.-based Furnitureland South's campaign is in partnership with Bliss & Company Salon and Day Spa in High Point. Employees of Furnitureland South are donning pink hair extensions through the month of October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Extensions are available for $10 each, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the National Breast Cancer Foundation and the American Cancer Society. Representatives from Bliss & Company Salon and Day Spa are on location at Furnitureland South today, 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. to apply extensions for interested employees and customers.
In addition, Furnitureland South turned its blog pink to show support for Breast Cancer Awareness. A link has been added to the top of the blog page to direct readers to the Web site for the N.C. Triad Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure so that interested readers can learn how they can volunteer or donate to the local chapter of the Komen charity.
In 1991, the Susan G. Komen Foundation handed out pink ribbons to participants in the New York City race for breast cancer survivors as a symbol of unity between women who have been affected by breast cancer. Soon after, the pink ribbon became an international symbol for breast cancer awareness.

High-end contemporary furnishings vendor Phillips Collection is moving its High Point headquarters to the former Rose Furniture building on Business I-85.
Expansion of Phillips' award-winning Origins Collection and the need for more hybrid showroom/warehouse space necessitated a move to the new 166,000-square-foot facility. The building once was home to furniture retailer Rose Furniture, which closed three years ago, and Phillips Collection's occupancy will fill a highly visible vacancy in High Point.
"This is logical and exciting for us," said Mark Phillips, CEO of Phillips Collection. "We have been admiring the former Rose Furniture building ever since moving to High Point from New York back in 2001. What a dream it is to have purchased this facility. We plan to be fully moved in and operational by the end of October. The new office and warehouse underscores our commitment to High Point and our intention to expand in our industry."
The new facility at 916 Finch Ave. allows Phillips Collection to dramatically expand existing operations and still have abundant space and resources available for complementary partners. Phillips Collection has been in touch with local, national and international colleges and universities who are excited at the prospect of having a footprint in such a design-centric community such as High Point.
This new home for Phillips Collection was selected because of its location and its warehouse size, which will translate into improved logistics and ease of access for customers and associates. Phillips Collection's former headquarters location was on East Kivett Drive.

The Metropolitan Home Furnishings Association has named Berkshire Furniture President Eric Bernstein winner of the 2010 Howard Liveright Memorial Award.
Berkshire Furniture of Union, N.J., a retailer serving the tri-state area for moderate to high quality furniture, is a service-oriented family owned business. The Howard Liveright Memorial award honors prominent members of the furniture industry for distinguished service.
"Eric is one of the nicest people you will ever meet," said Tommy Leflein, a member of both the Greater New York Home Furnishings Association and MFA boards. "And this guy does it all. He fixes furniture, delivers the goods, is always out on the sales floor and takes care of advertising. Most important, he is very popular with his customers and the reps he works with. He treats everyone with respect."
This year, for the first time, the award will be presented at a jointly held formal dinner and dance that includes members of both the Greater New York Home Furnishings Association and Metropolitan Furnishings Association at The Landmark, located on Route 17 South, East Rutherford, NJ, Saturday evening, Dec. 4.
Bernstein will share the spotlight with two other individuals, one honored by the Greater New York Home Furnishings Association. Jeff Katz, General Manager of The Fulton Stores has been chosen as the recipient of the 2010 Jerry Gans Memorial Award. The other, Metropolitan Home Furnishings Association recipient, Chris Clarizio, a furniture representative for Klaussner Home Furnishings and widely known for his work with the Dean Michael Clarizio Cancer Foundation, will be named Dean of IHFRA.
"Chis is a truly deserving individual. He is not only a philanthropist, he also gives his time and energy to MFA, most notably in support MFA's annual golf outing that benefits the Dean Michael Clarizio Foundation," said Kevin Snyder, president of MFA.
A commemorative journal is being prepared so that friends, family and business associates can honor Eric Bernstein, Chris Clarizio, and Jeff Katz with a personal congratulatory message.
For more information about the event, to make dinner reservations or reserve space in the journal to honor Eric Bernstein, please contact, Alan Granetz, by e-mail; or telephone, 908.725.3460.
