Area rug, wall decor, textiles and lighting vendor Surya has donated 300 operations for children with unrepaired clefts in need through Smile Train.
Smile Train is a New York-based non-profit organization with offices located in China, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Philippines, Russia, and Vietnam dedicated to providing cleft lip and palate surgeries to children in developing countries. Surya donated one child's surgery in the name of the company's top 300 customers in 2010. Smile Train has challenged other donors to match Surya's gift, which will result in twice as many surgeries.
"In these tough economic times, the donation from Surya means more to us now than ever before," said Delois Greenwood, executive director of Smile Train. "With their support we will be able to help more children and provide more smiles than we ever thought possible. We are honored that Surya choose to support Smile Train this holiday season. Working together, we will give hundreds of children a second chance at life."
"Although we are a for-profit company, our mission is to serve our community in bringing a positive change," said Calhoun, Ga.-based Surya's president, Satya Tiwari. "With our customers continued support, I am very confident that we can do more to contribute to childrens future next year."
