Brown to Lead Kingsdown's SCI Division Sales

By Home Furnishings Business in Executive Changes on March 28, 2013

Industry veteran Mike Brown has joined bedding vendor Kingsdown in the new position of national sales manager for the Sleep Comfort International Division.

With 27 years of experience in the mattress industry, Brown has extensive industry contacts and will lead efforts to expand distribution of the SCI brand.

Launched in September of 2012, SCI is a new, high-quality option in the competitive, low cost mattress market. Brown reports to Mebane, N.C.-based Kingsdown Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing Kevin Damewood.

Brown spent nearly 20 years with American Bedding Co. in Gainsville, Ga., where he most recently served as sales manager, overseeing a team of 12 sales representatives that consistently broke company sales records.

€œIn selecting Mike for this position, we wanted to find an industry veteran whose strength was cultivating both the relationships and new business necessary to successfully launch the SCI brand,€ said Damewood. €œMike is an expert in opening new accounts because he understands how to work with dealers to improve their competitiveness even in the most difficult of markets. As a sales manager, he is the complete package €“ he can merchandise, price, sales train and promote.  Those traits make him the ideal person to grow our retail partnerships across America.€

SCI is a value collection offering a half-dozen mattress options ranging in price from $199 to $799 in queen, manufactured at Kingsdown factories, bringing the company€™s styling and construction to low-cost mattress options.

€œMy goal is to introduce dealers to the SCI difference,€ said Brown. "They no longer have to sacrifice quality or service just because a product is competitively priced. The craftsmanship in all of our plants is exceptional and it€™s that superior tailoring, components and level of comfort that really gives us an advantage over other players in the value category."

Brown received his bachelor€™s degree in economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He and his family reside in Atlanta.
