Kathy Ireland to Host Hall of Fame Banquet

By Home Furnishings Business in Community/Charitable Support on August 9, 2011 Kathy Ireland, CEO and chief designer of kathy ireland Worldwide, will host the 23rd American Furniture Hall of Fame induction banquet Oct. 23 during the High Point Market.

€œKathy is a leading home furnishings designer with over 25 different home furnishings product categories to her credit. She is very passionate about design and home furnishings,€ said Kurt Darrow, American Furniture Hall of Fame Foundation president.  €œHer knowledge and genuine love of the home furnishings industry and the hundreds of thousands of people who have made the furniture industry great will make the evening memorable as we honor our new Industry Fellows and celebrate the accomplishments of these visionary leaders of our industry.€

€œIt is a true privilege to be a part of this wonderful event,€ Ireland said. €œMany of the industry leaders to be honored at the American Furniture Hall of Fame banquet share my company€™s philosophy of €˜...finding solutions for families, especially busy moms€™ and of €˜...finding solutions for people in business.€™ I am proud to share in honoring those who have made the home furnishings industry what it is today.€ 

Industry Fellows who will be recognized for their exceptional leadership, accomplishments and contributions to the furniture industry are Donald A. Belgrad, George Alexander Bernhardt, Donald G. Flanders, Sr., John C. Portman, Jr., Gordon Segal and Roy B. Unger. Inductees into the Hall of Fame also will be announced at the banquet.

The new slate of Industry Fellows was selected based on their contributions to the growth and development of the furniture industry in America including these standards:  enduring excellence, superior accomplishments, innovation and creativity, and philanthropic generosity. The voting period began July 8 and ended on Aug. 5.

The American Furniture Hall of Fame Foundation, Inc. is an international, industrywide organization founded to honor those individuals whose outstanding achievements have contributed to the continued growth and development of the U.S. furniture industry, as well as to research, collect and preserve our cultural, economic and artistic history. Membership includes eligibility to vote for inductees into the American Furniture Hall of Fame, and the opportunity to help preserve the history and heritage of the industry.

High Point Market Names Judges for Showroom Design Competition

By Home Furnishings Business in on August 9, 2011 The High Point Market has announced a slate of judges for this year€™s Showroom Design Competition, held during market week, Oct. 22-27.

The 2011 judges are Margaret Russell, editor in chief of Architectural Digest; world-renowned interior design icon David Easton; and Tracy Bulla, senior product editor for Home Accents Today.

€œWe are very pleased to have such a distinguished group of judges for this year€™s competition,€ said Cheminne Taylor-Smith, vice president  of marketing for the High Point Market Authority. €œDesigners and retailers know that the High Point Market is the place where great ideas begin€”and that it€™s a fantastic showcase for fresh new merchandising inspirations. By highlighting and honoring our exhibitors in this competition, we hope to provide retailers with ideas and techniques that they can use throughout the year.€

Launched at the Fall 2007 Market, the Showroom Design Competition celebrates the extraordinary creativity and inventiveness of High Point Market exhibitors. All Market exhibitors are invited to submit photos of their best showroom displays for the October Market, with a deadline of 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21.

The judges will vote for The Best of Market Award, which recognizes the showroom that best exemplifies design excellence. A second award, the People€™s Choice Award, honors the one exhibitor who captures the most attention at the Market and is voted on by Market attendees through Twitter and texts during Market. Both awards will be presented on Monday, Oct. 24, during the Stars Under the Stars concert.

Last year€™s honorees in the Best of Market category were BeeLine Home by Bunny Williams in first place, and Miles Talbott as runner-up. Four Hands won the 2010 People€™s Choice Award with the most votes from Market attendees.

Universal Furniture Names O'Connor VP of Sales

He succeeds Steven Lush who recently left the company to become president of Robb & Stucky International.

Schwartz Joins Zenith Global as VP of Business Development
