Supercat Strengthens Team

By Home Furnishings Business in Internet on September 28, 2011

SuperCat Solutions, provider of the eCat iPad sales app, has expanded its team in response to growth and to add support required for upcoming new features.

"With the addition of staff, we are poised for growth," said Steve Thrasher, president of SuperCat, Wilson, N.C. "This will enable us to maintain our current high level of service well into the future. Our customers expect an elevated degree of responsiveness and we want to continue providing that to them as we grow."

Dan Webb will serve as the new director of implementation and support, reporting to Thrasher. Webb has extensive practical experience in logistics, inventory, warehousing and distribution in a variety of challenging contexts. He also has strong IT credentials as well as experience with IBM on its PC division support team, both of which qualify him to assist SuperCat's customers.

"With Dan on the team, we will be able to continue to provide an exceptionally high level of prompt service," Thrasher said. "Dan leads by example because he understands the need for a skilled and rapid response to client requests."

Four additional team members, including iPad and data management specialists, an app designer and product manager, also are on board.

"Our knowledgeable and experienced development team offers the skills to provide a high level of responsive service to our clients," Thrasher said. "To date our customers are very satisfied with our eCat iPad app and with their experience with SuperCat Solutions. We are working hard to keep it that way as we grow."

Global Furniture Opening New High Point Showroom

By Home Furnishings Business in High Point on September 28, 2011

Global Furniture USA will have a new 25,000-square-foot showroom in Furniture Plaza for October High Point Furniture Market.

The new space is space 615 in Furniture Plaza.

The importer and distributor of contemporary bedroom, dining, entertainment, leather, and occasional furnishings, which has a U.S. customer base of more than 2,000 retailers, previously showed in its own building on West Commerce Avenue.

"As we grew as a company and expanded our product line, we outgrew our showroom," said Alex Vaysman, president of Global Furniture USA. "Furniture Plaza is a natural fit for us because our customers are already shopping this complex, so it easy for them to see us here."

At Market, Global will introduce an entirely new product line called Main Street by Global, which features more than 40 new upholstery groups and 14 new bedrooms. Global will also add 15 new upholstery groups and six new bedrooms to the existing line.

"We are thrilled to have Global Furniture back in our complex," said Steve Johnson, assistant general manager for Market Square AC Management. "They outgrew their space in Plaza Suites and moved into a larger building in town, but now are back with us in a much larger space that fits their current needs. It€™s amazing to see the growth this company has experienced over the last six years."

Profitsystems' Employee Enrichment

By Home Furnishings Business in Retail Technology on September 28, 2011

Retail automation vendor Profitsystems Inc. has published its fall schedule of enrichment classes for employees.

In a time when many companies are scaling back on employee benefits and development, Profitsystems COO Shelley Parlin believes such programs are vital for morale--and a company's success.

"Being happy with your job and the company you work for isn't just about wages," she said. "We try to have different activities that are fun for our employees or that help them better their lives. These classes are our way of doing just that."

Employees are encouraged to attend as many different classes as they would like. PROFITsystems picks up the expense of any speakers involved and also allows the employee to participate "on the clock," ensuring that they don't have to choose between their wages and learning something that would be beneficial to them personally.

"In the past we have offered a number of personal finance classes that have been extremely popular," said Jeff Niskern, CEO of Profitsystems, Colorado Springs, Colo. "With the economy the way it is, we wanted to dig deeper to find new ways to help our employees so we have expanded the topic range considerably."

The fall schedule includes the following classes:
* How to communicate with tact & professionalism: What message are you sending?
* Eat well. Live well.  A healthy way of life through nutrition.
* Your money: Ain't no sunshine when it's gone.
* Are you interested in being a landlord? Rental properties can be a great investment opportunity!
* Protect yourself: Self defense class for women.
* Extreme couponing: How to save without that much effort.
* Create an eco-friendly life: simple things you can do at home to reduce your carbon footprint.
* Exercising while you work.
Learn easy and different ways to stretch and keep active while at work. It will keep you energized, make the day more interesting, and goes a long way toward personal wellness.

"We anticipate being able to offer new classes each quarter," Parlin said. "As many companies are cutting wages, benefits, or even employees, we want to go the other route. Our employees are highly trained and are valuable resources to both us and our clients. Offering these classes are a great way to boost moral and help us to keep our talent."

By Aggregated Content in Furniture Retailing on September 27, 2011 from http://c.moreover.com/click/here.pl?r5252853401&f=10761 This week The New Yorker drops an epically huge 12-page feature about Ikea. Penned by staff writer Lauren Collins, the story profiles the 9,000-product-strong home-furnishings company that invented flat-pack furniture in 1951, sold more than $23B worth of goods last year, put gay couples in its ads way back in 1994 (and as recently as this year), is the world's third-largest consumer of wood, published 197M catalogues in 29 languages last year, and is controlled, ironically enough, by a Dutch tax-exempt non-profit foundation.
