BSC Taps Marcus Thomas for PR

By Home Furnishings Business in Bedding on January 10, 2012

The Better Sleep Council, the consumer research and education arm of the International Sleep Products Association, has named Marcus Thomas, Cleveland, as its public relations and marketing agency of record.

The BSC sought a partner for strategic development, public relations, and social and digital media advertising, and its search included six other undisclosed participants. Work breaking this month will aim to bring the mattress to consumers' top of mind as a vehicle for achieving better sleep.

"As a trade association, we have two sets of priorities," said Karin Mahoney, director of communications for the Better Sleep Council. "The first is to educate consumers about the impor tance of a high-quality mattress in achieving restful sleep. The second is to demonstrate to our members that our work is providing the value they demand from our group. We were impressed not just with Marcus Thomas' creative direction, but with their explicit, targeted goals and measurable outcomes."

"To us, the Sleep Council represents a fascinating creative challenge" said Marcus Thomas Senior Vice President and Director of Public Relations Todd Morgano. "We're promoting a solution, not a brand, and we have to make that solution resonate in a cluttered space. Our competition is anything you might turn to for a good night's rest, from pharmaceuticals to exercise to aromatherapy."

DOC Rescinds New Shipper Review of Marvin Furniture

By Home Furnishings Business in Bedroom on January 10, 2012

The U.S. Department of Commerce has preliminarily rescinded a new shipper review of wood bedroom furniture from Chinese manufacturer Marvin Furniture.

According to a Federal Register announcement, Marvin doesn't qualify for a review new shippers of wood bedroom furniture from China covering the period Jan. 1-June 30, 2001 under a 2005 antidumping order because Marvin had shipped subject merchandise prior to the period of review that it did not report in its request for a new shipper review.

If the Department proceeds to a final rescission of Marvin Furniture's NSR, the assessment rate to which Marvin Furniture's shipments will be subject will not be affected by this review. The assessment rate, however, could change if the Department conducts an administrative review of the antidumping duty order on wood bedroom furniture from China for 2011.
