Old Bassett Furniture Plant Catches Fire

The old Bassett Superior Lines furniture plant plant in the 2600 block of Fairystone Park Highway in Bassett, Va., caught fire Thursday evening, threatening a nearby furniture warehouse and spawning brush fires.

"The building was under demolition, however, it was adjacent to a building that's not," said Rodney Howell, Henry County's director of public safety. Furniture Executive Frank Batchelor, 90, Dies

A long-time Beaver County businessman died Thursday on his 90th birthday. Frank H. Batchelor, a Brighton Township resident for nearly 60 years, presided over Batchelor Furniture stores for more than 50 years.

The company, which had stores in Rochester, Monaca, the Northern Lights Shopping Center in Economy and the Beaver Valley Mall, operated from 1896 through 2010. Batchelor Furniture was an original tenant at Northern Lights in 1957 and an original tenant in the Beaver Valley Mall in 1969. The mall store closed in September 2010.

Mor Furniture Opens 24th Location

Furniture retailer Mor Furniture for Less, has expanded with a new store in Lynwood, Wash., the company's 24th store.

This is the second furniture store in the Seattle market for Mor Furniture and joins others throughout Washington and Oregon, in service for nearly 30 years.

The company's first bedroom showroom opened in 1983 with the Spokane store, and expanded into Portland and Seattle by 1986. The retailer transitioned to offer living room furniture and dining room furniture throughout the West Coast.

In 2005, the Seattle furniture stores were consolidated into one 100,000 square-foot furniture showroom with a 100,000 square-foot warehouse, located in Kent, Wash. The Kent showroom continues to be the company's largest furniture store across all seven states.

Mor Furniture for Less, established in 1977, operates stores in 7 states.
