Bedding major Sealy Corp. (NYSE: ZZ) has signed licensed agreements with two companies to produce and market pillows, blankets and mattress and pillow protectors.
Downlite will make synthetic filled pillows, blankets, comforters and sheets, and American Textile Co. will make mattress and pillow protectors. All of the products will carry the Sealy, Sealy Posturpedic or Sterns & Foster brand names and will hit retail in 2013.
"We're taking a fresh look at this category, and have selected two dynamic organizations known for high-quality products and innovation," said Larry Rogers, Sealy president and CEO. "They are forward-thinking, which is consistent with our strategy to grow through licensing and other strategic partnerships. With this new direction, Sealy will offer customers down and down-alternative products, protectors, and encasements that are the best made and most technologically advanced in the world."
For Downlite, the licensing agreement provides the opportunity to reach new markets and customers in partnership with Sealy, a brand recognized as a global leader for more than a century.

A Texas family is suing a furniture store after they claim the sofa they bought was infested with bed bugs.
The Houston couple says they moved into an apartment last summer that had been renovated and cleaned. They say the sofa they bought from a Rent-a-Center was full of bed bugs. The couple says the bugs attacked their four-year-old son. They called the store and the manager agreed to send an exterminator, but they say that didn't help.

Canadian retailer The Dufresne Group has partnered with Storis to use the companies Vision9 Enterprise Solution moving forward.
The recipient of "Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies" for 13 consecutive years, The Dufresne Group will use the Vision9 suite at all of its retail locations.
"This was a significant decision for our organization, as Vision9 will take our retail ERP platform to the next level of sophistication," said Mark Dufresne, CEO.

Robert Lewis "Bob" Sligh, industry leader and president of Sligh Furniture Co. from 1968 until 1990 died Monday May 21. He was 84.
Born in Grand Rapids, Mich., Sligh grew up in the furniture business working at both Sligh Furniture Co. and Baker Furniture plants as a teenager. He earned a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Michigan in 1950 with a major in wood technology, followed by a year of post-graduate work.
Sligh served as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Air Force before joining Sligh in 1954. By 1957, he assumed chief
operating responsibility for Sligh, and led the company until his retirement in 1993.
Sligh was chairman and board member of the Kendall School of Art and Design; resident and board member of the National Association of Furniture Manufacturers; president and board member of the Grand Rapids Furniture Manufacturers Association; chairman and board member of the Greater Holland United Way; and board member for the Holland Chamber of Commerce.
In addition to his significant contributions to the furniture industry, Sligh was the men's U.S. National Water Ski Champion in 1947, and runner up the following year. He also won the prestigious Great Lakes Ensign Class sailing championship five times between 1974 and 1982.
Sligh is survived by his wife, Lois Sligh, three children, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Son, Rob Sligh, is the current president of Sligh Furniture Co., a division of Lexington Home Brands.
