Fire Destroys Direct Furniture Outlet in Alabama

Authorities combed the wreckage of the Direct Furniture Outlet  in Summerdale, Ala., trying to confirm the cause of the fire that destroyed the building and shut down traffic on Ala. 59 for several hours.

No one was injured in the fire that started around 3 a.m. Monday.

Tax Incentive Plan Spurs Conflict among Furniture Stores

Just five months after opening a showroom in Whitefish Bay, Honquest Furniture owner Richard Honquest has decided to retire from a 52-year career in the furniture business and close his stores in Whitefish Bay, Ill., and Chicagoland, Ill.

The Whitefish Bay store€™s entire $1 million inventory of furniture, rugs and accessories will be discounted at a retirement and store closing sale designed to clear the showroom.

Howard Miller Consolidates 3 Brands for Sales, Marketing

The Howard Miller family of companies-Howard MillerHekman and Ridgeway-will consolidate sales and marketing efforts to better support its dealers and maximize growth opportunities.

The reorganization will include the hiring of an additional director of product design to develop product with the specific focus of broadening Hekman's product offerings in mid- and upper-price points.

In addition, dedicated sales and marketing representatives will manage all companies. All brands will remain distinctive in the marketplace with comprehensive advertising, promotions, in-store point-of-purchase materials, and sales support materials.

Furniture Store in South Omaha, Neb. Burns
