Americans kept increasing their spending in March and their income grew, further indication that consumers are shaking off higher taxes.
The Commerce Department said Monday that consumer spending rose 0.2 percent in March from February. That followed a 0.7 percent jump in February and a 0.3 percent gain in January.
Income increased 0.2 percent last month, following a gain of 1.1 percent in February. After-tax income also rose 0.2 percent.

Floored CEO Dave Eisenberg showed off his startup today at TechCrunch Disrupt's NY event, and the concept connected with the audience. To my ears, it attracted the most applause of any company today.

BB&T Corp. has purchased High Point's Atrium on Main furniture showroom complex for $2 million, said Ikerd Enterprises CEO Steve Ikerd, who sold the 221,000-square-foot complex.
The total appraised value of the building at 430 S. Main St. in High Point, as well as the three acres it sits on, is $9.1 million, according to Guilford County tax records.

A 60-year-old Gaston County, North Carolina, tradition is coming to an end. Baker Furniture Co. in Cramerton, N.C., plans to close by the end of July, having furnished local homes for three generations.
Owners Jim and Sandra Van Pelt say the time is right to stop working 12-hour days and start spending that time with their four grandchildren.
Customers have come to expect the VIP treatment from the business. Sandra Van Pelt often travels to customers' homes to measure spaces before placing orders.

The liquidation of Linwood Furniture LLC will accelerate later this month with the selling of inventory, machinery, parts and raw materials.
Liquid Assets Partners LLC is handling the liquidation, with the first event taking place April 29 at the plant, 3979 Old Linwood Road.
The company said the values for machinery are $2 million, finished furniture inventory at $1.5 million, raw materials at $4 million and unpainted furniture at $700,000.
