El Dorado Donates $250K in Furniture

El Dorado Furniture has donated more $250,000 in furniture and services through its 45 Years, 45 Families program.

As part of its 45th anniversary celebration, the furniture store has worked for 15 weeks with non-profit organizations and partners in the local media looking for South Florida families in need. With the help of those organizations El Dorado was able to furnish the homes of 45 families. Each of these families visited an El Dorado Furniture showroom to choose their furniture, and El Dorado provided the furniture, delivery, decorating and set up.

On Wednesday, El Dorado Furniture celebrated the conclusion to its 45 Years, 45 Families community effort.

"We were able to help many families, many children," said Vice President of Operations Pedro Capo. "This was truly the best way to celebrate our 45th anniversary, by giving back to our community."

The first El Dorado Furniture opened on June 27, 1967 ,and today the furniture store is ranked among the top 50 furniture retailers in the country. There are 12 stores in South Florida between Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties. In 2010, El Dorado Furniture founder Manuel Capo was inducted into the American Furniture Hall of Fame.

Lazar to Produce Bkind3 Licensed Line

Upholstered furniture manufacturer Lazar will market and produce the Bkind3 licensed brand of upholstered seating as part of the Lazar product line.

Bkind3 aims to bring to the home well-styled, affordable seating that is eco-friendly, sustainable and safe, and Bkind3 became a new resource for many contemporary stores offering hip mid-century looks at a value. Carl Gustafson, who founded Bkind3 will partner with Lazar to bring his unique sense of styling and design to the Lazar customer base while maintaining previous Bkind3 relationships.

Samuel Lawrence Recalls Sleigh Beds

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Health Canada and Samuel Lawrence Furniture have recalled the SLF's Bordeaux king- and queen-size sleigh bed frames.

Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. The voluntary recall involves around 18,400 in the United States and 1,250 in Canada.

The beds, manufactured by Poh Huat Furniture of Malaysia, have hardware holding the headboard and footboard that can loosen or detach, posing a fall hazard.

Samuel Lawrence has received one report of a Florida man who injured his foot when the bed's footboard detached.

This recall includes Bordeaux Collection king- and queen-size sleigh beds with wooden headboards and footboards in a cherry finish. Each bed also has two matching wooden side rails. "Bordeaux" and the model number are printed on a white label on the back of the headboard and footboard. Model numbers for the recalled beds are 8070-252 and 8070-253 for the queen-size and 8070-272 and 8070-273 for the king-size.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled beds and contact Samuel Lawrence Furniture to obtain a free repair kit.

John Mayo Named Hickory Springs' General Counsel

John Mayo has joined furniture and bedding components vendor Hickory Springs as general counsel.

He replaces Blake Trimble, who is retiring at the end of this month.

€œBlake€™s guidance, opinion and diverse legal experience has made him a trusted and well respected part of our team,€ said David Colburn, President/CEO of Hickory Springs. €œHe has been a mentor, leader, teacher and valued friend to us all and will certainly be missed.€

Mayo will begin immediately as the company€™s new general counsel. He has been previously employed with other manufacturing companies including Coltec Industries, Goodrich Corporation, and Enpro Industries. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado and his law degree from Arizona State University. Mayo and Trimble will work together throughout the transition over the next few weeks as Mayo becomes more familiar with the company and its ongoing legal projects.

€œWhile we will all miss Blake, I am very pleased to welcome John Mayo,€ Colburn said. €œJohn is a seasoned general counsel who we all feel sure will continue and expand on the fine representation and sound guidance that Blake brought to Hickory Springs throughout his 13 years of service to the company.€
