By Home Furnishings Business in on December 19, 2012

Swarovski Elements will sponsor the 24th annual ARTS Awards gala slated to be held Jan. 19 during the Dallas International Lighting and Accessories Market.

This will be the second consecutive year Swarovski has supported the event by contributing crystalline interior decorations to make the ballroom sparkle during the ceremony.

The ARTS awards program is dedicated to excellence and achievement in manufacturing, retail, design, and sales representation, across the home decorative accessories segment.

The ARTS Awards will culminate in a black-tie gala attended by industry leaders and will be held in the ballroom of the Dallas Hilton Anatole Hotel. Cream-colored panels embossed with the ARTS Awards logo in copper crystals will decorate the venue, and the stage will feature two custom-made, crystal-embellished podiums. The Swarovski Crystal Curtains, made with 287 individual strands, will provide a backdrop. Guests will find tabletop favors at place settings of custom-designed, crystalline wine glass stem charms as mementos of the evening.

"Identifying and supporting talent has long been a cornerstone of Swarovski Elements' philosophy, along with creative collaborations with stellar talents, both established and new," Reinhard Mackinger, executive vice president, Elements business for Swarovski North America. "As such, the ARTS Awards represent an important event in which Swarovski Elements is delighted to play a supporting role."

By Aggregated Content in Business Strategy on December 18, 2012 from http://www.mlive.com/news/kalamazoo/index.ssf/2012/12/art_van_furniture_drake_road.html

Art Van Furniture plans a 10-year, $150,000 investment in a building on Kalamazoo, Mich.'s, west side after the city's Zoning Board of Appeals approved a variance last week allowing the business to display larger signs than in the city's ordinance.

Art Van will locate at 330 N. Drake Road, in the space. The board on Thursday voted 4 to 2 to allow Art Van to display two 100-square-foot wall signs rather than the two 6-square-foot wall signs permissible in the ordinance, based on the amount of the building's frontage.

By Home Furnishings Business in Case Goods on December 18, 2012

Abbyson Living is returning to the Las Vegas Market in January with a permanent showroom located at B-880.

The 6,256-square-foot showroom is in a "prime, atrium space right off the escalator," said Yavar Rafieha, vice president of Abbyson Living. "We are remodeling the space for market to create a stunning presentation."

The showroom is being designed to spotlight lifestyle vignettes. It will include a full bar, marble flooring and interactive video displays.

Based in Los Angeles, Abbyson Living produces bedroom, dining room, occasional, upholstery, accent furniture and area rugs. The company is known for "inspired elegance" - classic designs updated with transitional and modern touches that are "chic, creative and functional and in tune with today's lifestyles," Rafieha said.

At the Las Vegas Market taking place Jan. 28 to Feb. 1, Abbyson Living will introduce new dining and leather groups, as well as mirrors, lamps, pillows and rugs. The company also is introducing a line of higher-end fabrics.

On the merchandising side, Abbyson Living will debut a touch-screen kiosk for retailers that provides instant access to its online catalogs. The company's sales force also will be equipped with iPads linked to its Web site and database.

"We will have a number of ambitious programs and concepts to share with our retailers," Rafieha said. "This new showroom gives us a great opportunity to introduce our new brand campaign and other initiatives."

Designed by Los Angeles-based consultant MVC Agency, http://www.mvcagency.com/ the brand campaign includes a new logo, tagline ("Inspired Elegance for the Way We Live") and Web site. In addition, Abbyson is stepping up its social media marketing efforts to leverage the celebrity following that its products have inspired.

"Abbyson Living has always been dedicated to building our brand name in the market," Rafieha said. "Through social media, our website and other communications, we aim to build a more meaningful connection with our target customers, based on core values such as quality and style."

Founded in 1989 as an importer of hand-knotted Tibetan rugs and other hand-crafted products, Abbyson has evolved into a whole-home furniture source. Today, Abbyson sources its furnishings from company-owned plants in Asia, Italy and Germany, with U.S. distribution centers in Los Angeles and Plainfield, Ind. In 2013, it plans to add a third U.S. distribution facility on the East Coast.

"We are excited that Abbyson Living sees the Las Vegas Market as a key part of its new marketing initiatives," said Craig Staack, vice president of home furnishings leasing for International Market Centers. "The Las Vegas Market offers growing companies such as Abbyson a highly effective platform for reaching new customers."
