The City of Hope is adding its annual Spirit of Life Award dinner to the downtown entertainment lineup for the fall High Point Market.
Instead of its traditional venue at Greensboro’s Four Seasons Sheraton, the dinner will be held at the tent outside of Showplace Wednesday, Oct. 3.
The dinner will still feature the industry’s most talented members as the fourth annual American Furniture Idol returns to highlight the event. Event organizers are seeking candidates for the competition. Winners take home bragging rights for the entire year.
Prospective performers can contact Michael Sandler at City of Hope to sign up. He can be reached at msandler@coh.org or by phone at (800) 272-2310.
Other City of Hope events include the annual West Coast Golf and Tennis Tournament June 4 in Coto de Caza, Calif. This year’s tournament is being held in honor of Guildcraft of California executives Sid Blitz, Larry Quilling, Arthur Fink and Robert Papazian, who will receive a Lifetime Achievement award for leadership and philanthropy.
More than 400 industry members will participate in the tournament, dinner and auction. The event has collected more than $2.9 million for City of Hope since its inception in 1989, including a record $1.1 million last year. Visit

This summer, the fundraising continues with the fourth annual Midwest Dinner Cruise featuring views of Chicago’s skyline Monday, Aug. 20. Last year’s cruise had about 300 participants at the sunset cocktail party on the decks of Mystic Blue Cruises.

Seabrook Classics of Beaufort, S.C., has acquired Southport Furniture.
Both companies offer coastal cottage designs.
“We are excited to expand our offerings and reach into new markets with the addition of Southport Furniture,” said Greg Bosiack, president and chief executive officer of Seabrook Classics. “By providing our customers with a variety of price points, we’re opening the door for more people to enjoy the beautiful coastal cottage style in their homes.”
The Seabrook Classics line is a high-end, all-wood, painted furniture collection, featuring Low Country elements, including plantation shutters, seagrass panels and cut-outs of coastal motifs such as palm trees, fish and pelicans. The line is bench-built and available in 40 paint colors and available through more than 100 high-end retailers and designers. The company’s Southport line will offer furniture in the painted coastal cottage style without custom options and at a lower price point.
In addition, Seabrook Classics has named Steve Robertson vice president.
Robertson was a partner and president of Southport Furniture prior to the acqusition. He also has taken an equity stake in Seabrook Classics. In his new role, he will focus on the sales and distribution for both brands.
“I am excited about the merging of the two companies and my new role with Seabrook Classics,” says Robertson. “With the acquisition of Southport Furniture, Seabrook Classics can now offer a greater assortment of coastal cottage furniture from the custom abilities of the Seabrook Classics line to the lower price point of Southport Furniture.”
