RH Seeks Alcohol License for Boston Store

If Restoration Hardware gets its way, you'll be able to enjoy wine with lunch while purchasing home furnishings from their new store in Boston's Back Bay.

The California-based retailer will go before the Boston Licensing Board on Wednesday seeking a beer and wine license for a proposed 118-seat restaurant on three levels. Located in the 19th-century Boston building that once housed the New England Museum of Natural History and LouisBoston, the store is set to open next month.

Wetlands Discovery Delays Ashley's N.C. Plant

The discovery of 4 acres of wetlands on what is slated to be the site of Ashley Furniture's new distribution center in eastern Davie County, N.C., means the highly anticipated project will be delayed for at least another year.

Bill Coslo, an attorney for Ashley Furniture, said company officials have applied for a permit with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that is needed to build on wetlands.

Wilcox Furniture Opens HGTV Home Display

Wilcox Furniture has opened a 5,000-square-foot display of Bassett Furniture's HGTV Home Collection in its flagship Corpus Christi, Texas, store.

Dallas Market Center Searches for Next Big Thing

Dallas Market Center is accepting entries for The Next Big Thing, its national product search contest.

Three finalists will show their products in front of more than 50,000 attendees during the June 20-23 Dallas Temp Show at the June 19-25 Total Home & Gift Market.

The contest is for anyone who has the next hot product--a product designer, entrepreneur, artist, stay-at-home mom, your next door neighbor, or any other creative mind. It offers the opportunity for those with innovative products to make their dreams a reality.

€œThe Next Big Thing has proven to be a high profile vehicle for introducing new home or gift products to a large audience,€ said Bill Winsor, president and CEO, Dallas Market Center. €œFinalists meet retailers from throughout the world and many have gone on to great success. Our marketplace welcomes fresh, innovative products through the contest and from all of our exhibiting companies.€

The Next Big Thing allows three contest finalists, whether companies or individuals, to show their product in front of domestic and international retail buyers at Dallas Market Center. Products should be new and unique and cannot have been shown in retail or wholesale prior to January 2012. Products can be the perfect gift, latest gadget, or a must-have home good.

The three finalists will be selected by a panel of industry experts as well as Dallas Market Center representatives and announced on April 24. The finalists will receive airfare and hotel for the Dallas Temp Show to show their product in a complimentary, custom exhibit space.

Judges from consumer and trade media as well as industry experts will help select the winner based on the finalists€™ products. In addition, the public will have a chance to vote to show their support for their favorite product/finalist on the Dallas Market Center Facebook page. The winner will be selected based on a combination of judges€™ feedback and popular vote.

The Next Big Thing winner will be announced on Saturday, June 22, and receive a prize package worth more than $12,500 including a $2,500 cash prize. The package includes exhibit space at the Dallas Total Home & Gift Market in January 2014, a profile in Dallas Market Center€™s custom publication, and consultations from industry experts regarding branding, marketing, public relations, visual merchandising and more.

Actona Co. Appoints VP of Sales for Americas

Danish importer Actona Co. has named industry veteran David King vice president of sales for the U.S., Canada and South America, a new position for the company.

The company, based in Tvis, Denmark, is looking to increase its presence in North America and South America.

In his position, King is responsible for developing sales strategies and supporting corporate marketing strategies to ensure future growth for the company.

"David brings excellent knowledge of these markets as well as the vision and sales management and the product experience to help Actona grow significantly in these markets," said Niels Laurent, manager of world wide sales for Actona.
