ADL to Honor Serta's Sherman and Rooms To Go's Seamans

By Home Furnishings Business in Special Events on March 25, 2010 Jeff Seaman, Bob Sherman and Morty Seaman will all be honored in June by the National Home Furnishings Industry division of the Anti-Defamation League at its annual tribute dinner in New York.

Jeff Seaman of furniture retailer Rooms To Go and Bob Sherman of bedding major Serta International will each receive the American Heritage Award from the group, and Morty Seaman, also of Rooms To Go, will accept the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The dinner will be held Thursday, June 10, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York. For more information, contact Beth Katznelson.

Rug Supplier Oriental Weavers Promotes Hartsfield

Hartsfield joined Oriental Weavers in 2008 as broadloom operations manager. He was instrumental in the development and launch of the company€™s broadloom category. Before joining Oriental Weavers, he was the general manager for Calhoun, Ga.-based Daltonian Flooring.

In his new role, Hartsfield will work with the company€™s sales force, product development, and senior management team to expand the company€™s distribution of Wilton-woven and Axminster broadloom from their company€™s facilities in the U.S. and Egypt.

Tvilum-Scanbirk Returns to High Point for Market

By Home Furnishings Business in High Point on March 24, 2010 Danish sustainable ready-to-assemble furniture supplier Tvilum-Scanbirk is returning to 220 Elm for the upcoming High Point Market.

A renewed focus on the North American market has brought the group, owned by the Masco Corp., back to High Point. The company will be showing in showroom 312.

€œWe are excited about being back at market, and also about being back in 220 Elm where all of our customers shop," said Lene Simon, Tvilum-Scanbirk sales manager. "220 Elm is the right place for us because the third floor is the most contemporary location in High Point. It brings us new potential customers who shop for the style and design."

Several lines with new finishes and colors will be introduced across the company's product categories. Tvilum-Scanbirk's focus this market is on its Boston veneered office and on new veneered bedrooms and dressers, entertainment units and a new contemporary office line, Performance.

Linder's Hiring for New SoCal Store

Linder's Furniture, Garden Grove, Calif., is hiring for a new store in Cathedral City, Calif., the Desert Sun reported Tuesday.

Linder's will open the superstore in a former Rooms Express location in early April. Linder's had acquired the Rooms Express brand, but in closed two Rooms Express locations in September.

The former Rooms Express in La Quinta won't reopen, Linder's President Eric Foucrier said in the report.

Gordon's Furniture Relocates in Thomasville, N.C.

Gordon's Furniture in Thomasville, N.C., has consolidated its operation into a new, 17,000-square-foot location, the Lexington Dispatch reported Tuesday.

Owner David Gordon said in the report that while the square footage is about the same as before, the prior location was in four separate buildings, and the new location will be more convenient for customers.

The new Gordon's location is in the former Holton Furniture building, which had been vacant since closing several years ago.

"We have a lot of confidence in Davidson County and our economy," Gordon told the paper. "We've seen hard times and good times, and the hard times just make you appreciate the good times."

Gordon also owns the promotional retailer Bargain Furniture, also in Thomasville.
