Mathis Brothers Furniture plans to build a $16 million, 365,000-square-foot distribution center in Oklahoma City.
Mathis Brothers Furniture plans to build a new $16-million, 365,000-square-foot distribution center near its store along Interstate 40 to keep pace with the growth of several brands it operates in the Oklahoma City metro area.
“We've kind of outgrown this property and this expansion will help us grow and also better serve our customers,” Bill Mathis said of Mathis Brothers' 410,000-square-foot store and distribution center at 3434 W Reno.
Mathis hopes the new distribution center will free up more parking for customers at the store, and also could pave the way for the eventual reuse of the existing distribution area for an expansion of Mathis Brothers' already expansive showroom.
The new distribution center will serve the needs of the local Factory Direct Furniture and Drexel Heritage stores, also operated by Mathis Brothers.
“The distribution center demonstrates the commitment we have made to Oklahoma City and doing business here,” Mathis said.
The new facility will be built on the site of the former Big Red Furniture Warehouse store at 413 S Portland.
The distribution center will position the company for growth of the Mathis Brothers Sleep Studio stores in the metro area, as well as Ashley Furniture HomeStores.
Mathis Brothers is a franchisee for Wisconsin-based Ashley Furniture. The Oklahoma City-based company hopes to eventually have seven 30,000-square-foot to 40,000-square-foot Ashley Furniture stores in the Tulsa and Oklahoma City metro areas.
