From Home Furnishing Business

Grand Opens 3 West Virginia Stores

Furniture retailer Grand Home Furnishings opened three stores in West Virginia over the weekend. The stores in Princeton, Beckley and Summersville are now open for business.

Customers, delegates and employees gathered Friday at Grand Home Furnishings for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the chance to look at what the new store has to offer.

The opening in Beckley was just one of three openings. Grand’s stores in Princeton, Beckley and Summersville all opened today.

The company’s Chief Operating Officer Robert G. Bennett says he knows the store will play a big role in the Beckley community.

“We support the communities that we’re in (through charity work),” he said. “We feel like it’s important to give back to the communities that support us, so we want to be more involved in the Beckley, Princeton and Summersville communities than we have in the past. That’s really important to our family.”

In order to bring furniture and mattresses to the people, the store had to go through quite a bit of remodeling, Bennett said.

“There were formerly electronics and appliances in the store and they were very dark and (old) displays,” he said. “There’s a lot of remodeling that was done to the store to make it user-friendly by making it more open and welcoming to the customer.”

Bennett says one way employees make sure customers feel welcome is by giving them a cold Coca-Cola in the classic glass bottle.

They don’t charge a thing for the drink.

“This has been a company trademark since 1953,” he said. “Last year we gave out over a million bottles.”
