Ethan Allen Unveils "The New Eclecticism"

EANewEclecticVertically integrated home furnishings retailer Ethan Allen unveiled its vision of “The New Eclecticism” at a champagne reception last week in its newly redesigned flagship Design Center in Danbury, Conn.

Co-hosted by Connecticut Cottages & Gardens, the event brought together a crowd of more than 150 interior designers and local dignitaries, as well as long-time Ethan Allen clients and more than a few curious newcomers.

"The New Eclecticism reflects how people are living their lives today,” said Ethan Allen CEO Farooq Kathwari in his welcoming remarks. “They are dressing eclectically, they are eating eclectically, and most of all, they are decorating their homes eclectically.”

DJ Carey, Editorial Director of Cottages & Gardens, introduced the evening’s four VIP interior designers—Douglas Graneto, Patrick Mele, Lynn Morgan, and Christina Roughan--and then gave out clues to a scavenger hunt in which guests scrambled to locate each designer’s favorite piece. Several of those favorites were among Ethan Allen’s most iconic designs--an orange leather Rand wing chair, a Berkshire side chair in vibrant Kelly Green finish, and a Birkhouse display cabinet.

Throughout the evening, guests, which included Western Connecticut State University President James Schmotter and City of Danbury Director of Economic Development Bruce Tuomala, took in the colorful new eclectic designs on display and interacted with the new touchscreen technology throughout the Design Center.
