SFC Recommends Webinar Series

The Sustainable Furniture Council has recommended a series of webinars on harmful chemicals in everyday products.

The series began Oct. 22 and runs weekly at 11 a.m. (Pacific Time) for eight weeks.

Remaining webinars include:
* Nov. 5, Flame Retardants, featuring, Arlene Blum, PhD, visiting scholar, University of California-Berkeley's Green Science Policy Institute.
* Nov. 12, Plasticizers & Endocrine Disruptors, featuring Carol Kwiatkowski, PhD, The Endocrine Disruption Exchange Inc.
* Nov. 19, Solvents, featuring Liz Harriman, deputy director, Massachusetts Toxics Use Reduction Institute.
* Nov. 26, Heavy Metals, Graham Peaslee, PhD, Hartgerink Professor of Chemistry, Hope College.
* Dec. 3, Do We Need It?, Debbie Raphael, director, California Department of Toxic Substance Control.
* Dec., 10, Green Chemistry, Bob Peoples, PhD, former director of ACS Green Chemistry Institute
 
The next Flame Retardant Dilemma Symposium will be held at the University of California-Berkeley on Feb. 14, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. in 150 University Hall. Contributors from academia, industry, government, and citizens groups will  share information on flame retardants and flammability standards.  

Speakers include Kirby Walker on the making of the HBO documentary Toxic Hot Seat; Debbie Raphael, director of the California Department of Toxic Substances Control, on Safer Consumer Product Regulations; and Eden Brukman from the Health Product Declaration Collaborative.
