Longtime industry veteran Tom Tilley has been named CEO of Councill, a subsidiary of Hancock & Moore. Tilley succeeds Carlton Mallory, who retired at the end of June with case goods and upholstery supplier Councill.
Tom Tilley, a furniture industry veteran who formerly served as the president of Thomasville Furniture and Henredon, is the new CEO of Councill, which is a subsidiary of Hancock & Moore, a privately owned company in Hickory that specializes in custom leather upholstery.
Tilley takes over from Carlton Mallory, who retired at the end of June after a decade at the helm of the high-end casegoods and upholstery manufacturer. In July, Councill purchased the assets of Thomas & Gray, which Tilley and his wife founded in 2009, and brought Tilley aboard to maintain and expand Councill's product line. Thomas & Gray, which is manufactured in a 65-year-old factory in Bogota, Colombia, is a casegoods line at a lower price point than Councill. The brand name will remain the same, and the business will operate as a division of Councill.
"It's an upper-middle price point," Tilley said of Thomas & Gray. "It's more casual in nature than the Councill line, which is a luxury brand. Thomas & Gray is a premium brand with a broader appeal."
