HPU to Dedicate Wanek Center

High Point University officials and friends will gather Wednesday to dedicate a student center named for a local businessman and donor.

The R.G. Wanek Center, the former University Center,  houses a satellite library, several dining facilities, including a restaurant on the fifth floor, and a cinema. At the center, students can enjoy academic and social events in one central location.

Wanek, the founder of Ashley Furniture, earlier gave HPU $10 million through the Ronald and Joyce Wanek Foundation. Wanek started Ashley Furniture in 1970.

Speaking on behalf of the Wanek Foundation, Wanek praised HPU for its educational efforts in entrepreneurship, technology, business, and most importantly, the free enterprise system. He firmly believes colleges that accurately teach the fundamentals of the free  enterprise system will be graduating our future leaders.
