Gauging Consumer Appetite for Sustainable Furnishings

The Sustainable Furnishings Council will host a panel discussion and luncheon at High Point Furniture Market to help retailers understand consumers’ current attitudes about, and purchase intentions of, sustainable furnishings.

Mitchell Gold, founder of Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams; Steve Freeman, vendor resource manager of Room & Board; and Peggy Burns, owner of Circle Furniture, will share real-time solutions for earning the loyalty and dollars of home furnishings shoppers. Bob George, owner of Impact Consulting, the firm that conducted SFC’s fifth annual consumer research study, will guide the discussion and share topical research findings.

“The results of SFC’s 2013 Green Home Furnishings Study provide clear-cut evidence of consumers’ growing interest in sustainable furnishings and environmentally safe products in general,” said SFC Executive Director Susan Inglis. “Our data goes on to show need for greater education--on the part of both home furnishings manufacturers and retailers--so consumers know about and ultimately buy sustainable home furnishings.

“Not only do our panelists serve on the SFC Board of Directors, they are highly successful retailers committed to green business practices. Their insights, plus the SFC’s consumer research results, will offer must-have sustainability and business insights that can benefit any retailer’s bottom line.”

SFC’s luncheon begins at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 22. The hour-long event will be held in the International Home Furnishings Center’s Green Wing Ballroom B, 11th floor. The event is free to registered High Point Market attendees, but advance registration is required. E-mail to secure seats.

To obtain a copy of 2013 Green Home Furnishings Study, underwritten by Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, SFC members obtain login credentials when they contact the SFC offices at 252.368.1098; or by e-mail. The report is available to non-SFC members for $250 here. Select the Industry Info tab and choose Industry Reports in the drop-down menu.
