Norwalk Marks 5th Anniversary of Rebirth

Norwalk Custom Order Furniture is marking the fifth anniversary of its rebirth by planting trees in honor of the families who helped revive the company.

In September 2008, just as the company was on the brink of going out of business, 12 families stepped in and turned the brand around. Moving quickly to reestablish the company which had been founded 111 years prior, the new owners went into overdrive.

“We’ve made extraordinary strides over the past five years,” said Mike Kenney, president of Norwalk. “We’ve recently renewed a long-term High Point showroom lease and during the past two years we’ve opened a showroom in Las Vegas, added a dedicated sales team on the West Coast and opened a new showroom at our corporate offices for customer training, a pre-market in the spring and fall, and as a showcase for new designs in custom upholstery.”

To mark the occasion, a celebration is planned for the 12 families, investors and employees. The celebration will feature a cocktail reception, dinner, music and a slide show of memorable moments over the past five years. Friday, employees and investors will gather as representatives from each of the original 12 families plant trees along Furniture Parkway that leads up to the Norwalk factory.

"The trees are being planted to symbolize new growth, similar to that experienced by Norwalk," Kenney said.

An engraved plaque will be placed near the trees that reads:

"Each of these trees represents one of the 12 families who brought life back to this factory. As these trees grow and flourish over the coming years, so will Norwalk Custom Order Furniture."
