AHFA Suppliers Raise Scholarship Funds

The American Home Furnishings Alliance Supplier Division 2013 Scholarship Golf Tournament last month raised $19,000 for scholarships to benefit children of home furnishings industry workers.

AHFA’s Suppliers Division Scholarship Program awards six $2,000 scholarships each year. The recipients are selected based on financial need and academic merit. They also must be children of employees working for AHFA member companies. 

A total of 19 teams competed in the 2013 tournament at Lake Hickory Country Club in Hickory, N.C. The first place team included Lanny Jarrell, Ray Smith and Doug Collamer, Wright Global Graphic Solutions; and Craig Stroup, Merrimac Textiles. The second place team included Julie Messner, Tom Mitchell and Richard Krapfel, International Market Centers; along with Chad East, Deluxe Printing. Placing third were Lee Bost, Harlee Packaging; along with Mike Kreidler, Mark Jordan and Dan Dibble, all of Bassett.

Platinum tournament sponsors included HSM Solutions(formerly Hickory Springs)Leggett & Platt and NCFI Polyurethanes. Gold sponsors were Wright Global Graphic Solutions and Harlee Packaging; and silver sponsors were RPM Wood Finishes and OTR Fuel Consulting

More than 80 scholarships have been awarded by AHFA’s Suppliers Division since 2000. All students age 21 or younger who are enrolled in or planning to enroll in a four-year college or university, a junior or community college, or a vocational or technical school are eligible to apply if they have a parent who works for an AHFA manufacturer or supplier member company. The application deadline is Jan. 31, and the recipients are announced in April.
