Furniture Buying Index Inches Up 1 Point

The monthly Furniture Buying Index moved up one point this month to a reading of 77, according to America's Research Group.

"Consumers who have postponed or delayed making furniture purchases for the past two years or so are now beginning to think about making those purchases," said Britt Beemer, chairman. "Consumers have furniture on their minds going into Labor Day weekend and retailers can entice them to buy at this time. The Furniture Buying Index is up slightly this month as a result of this pent-up demand."

The Furniture Buying Index is compiled each month by America's Research Group from interviews with between 5,000 and 8,000 consumers across the country. In a typical month, 80 percent of the consumers interviewed can name a specific furniture item they intend to buy. The Index's mark signifies what percent of the benchmark 80 percent have a particular item in mind.
