One of the design industry’s most prestigious honors, Good Design recipients are chosen annually by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in cooperation with the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies.
“Good Design is a distinguished international competition that all within the design industry await each year and we are honored to be included among the prominent designers and manufacturers recognized by the Chicago Athenaeum," said Chris Carmicle , president of Brown Jordan, Los Angeles. "The Cloud Nine series highlights our company’s creative partnership with Richard Frinier to further develop the Brown Jordan brand and push the envelope of outdoor furniture design.”
Cloud Nine uses extruded and cast aluminum and parabolic mesh to create a “soft modern” design that has a fresh, modern lightness and transparency that fulfills the award’s criteria of visionary and original product concepts.
"I am proud to receive the Good Design award along with Brown Jordan,” said designer Richard Frinier. “It is especially meaningful to celebrate over 30 years of industrial design with this recognition and to collaborate once again with Brown Jordan, where my career in outdoor furniture design began."
The soft-contour Cloud Nine collection includes a sofa, armchair and chaise, executed in powder-coated aluminum and a parabolic mesh that provides flexibility and support in three dimensions.
“The best design surprises and delights—and the Brown Jordan collections by Richard Frinier always generate excitement and admiration among the design community and those discerning customers who appreciate the artistry and enduring appeal of his work," said Chief Brand Officer Steve Elton . "Cloud Nine is destined to become a modern classic. We are very proud that the Chicago Athenaeum has chosen to recognize the inventiveness of Richard Frinier’s creative talent.”
