Weekends Only Promotes Hamm and Hughes to Key Leadership Roles

Midwestern retailer Weekends Only Furniture & Mattress has announced the promotion of Lane Hamm to president and CEO and Chelsea Hughes to vice president for merchandising, marketing, and digital experience.

Founded in St. Louis in 1997, Weekends Only now offers a wide selection of furniture for every room, as well as a variety of mattresses, in eight locations across Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana. Its newest location is set to open in Springfield, MO in summer 2021.

Hamm has served as president of Weekends Only since 2014. He follows in the footsteps of former CEO Tom Phillips as the first individual to serve as CEO outside of the Phillips family since the company’s founding in 1997.

“From the time Phillips Mercantile opened to serve the furniture needs of St. Louis in 1937 to today, the Phillips family has created a tremendous legacy in the furniture industry,” said Hamm. “I am grateful for the opportunity to take our business to the next level with new partnerships, expanded offerings, and new markets while staying true to our unique weekends-only model.”

Hughes has served as the vice president for merchandising since 2019 and her promotion combines three important areas of the customer experience now within one team.

“As we continue to see shifts in the industry, this new structure will ensure enhanced collaboration that is necessary to provide a robust, end-to-end experience for our customers that include both digital and in-store experiences,” said Hughes. “By uniting the merchandising, marketing, and digital experience areas all on the same team, we have the opportunity to be agile and innovative like never before.”

Hughes was recognized as a leader in the retail space, named as 2020 Woman on the Rise by Women in Retail Leadership Circle. She also serves on the Customer Experience Advisory Board for Missouri State University and looks forward to getting further involved in communities surrounding Weekends Only Stores.

The executive team at Weekends Only is made up of a diverse group of individuals with backgrounds outside of the traditional retail furniture industry. Comprised of four women and two men, each member of the team brings to the table a breadth of experience from a wide variety of businesses and industries including Blockbuster, Pier One, J.C. Penney, Caleres Footwear, Best Buy, Software Development, and Marketing and Advertising.

“Our diverse leadership team recognizes that growth requires taking risk, something that isn’t always evident in our industry,” said Hamm. “With such a portfolio of outside experience, I am excited to see what our team will do to better meet the needs of our customers while providing them with an ever-improving furniture buying experience.”

Weekends Only offers a large variety of furniture and mattresses for in-store purchase at all eight locations. Consumers that live near Weekends Only store locations can also purchase online and pick up in store or opt for local delivery.

“We keep the consumer at the center of everything we do,” said Hughes. “Whether they’re shopping in store, online, from a far, or in our communities, I am excited to make houses into homes by bringing our consumers exactly what they need and want for their families.”
