Fast Fact: Housing Inventories Continue Downward Spiral

Housing inventories across both rentals and homes for sale continue to decline well after the recession, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s Current Population Survey/ Housing Vacancy Survey.
During the four-year period 2010 to 2014, rental inventories fell at an annual rate (CAGR) of 7.5 percent and housing for-sale inventories declined 10.2 percent.
From 2014 to 2017, decreases continued at a smaller rate of 0.4 percent for rentals and 4.8 percent for homes for sale.
