Southern Furniture Announces Promotion, New Hire

Upholstery manufacturer Southern Furniture has promoted Michelle Doherr to creative director and added industry veteran Susan Lenhart as director of marketing.

Both Doherr and Lenhart will report to Trent Wright, president and CEO.

“As we expand our customer base and realize growth, it’s imperative we have key leadership positions filled with people who share our vision and are passionate about success with our retail partners,” said Wright. “Michelle and Susan bring the creativity, enthusiasm, and experience that will help Southern reach the next level.”

Doherr has been with Southern for three years and has held roles of increasing responsibility from fabric buyer to product specialist. In her new role, she will be responsible for fabric selection, will drive the conceptualization of new products, and direct the layout and design of the company’s High Point showroom.

“Michelle has a great eye for fabric-to-frame combinations and is quickly becoming one of the best creative merchants in the industry. Her passion and creative energy are a huge asset to Southern,” said Wright.

Lenhart joined the company in March as director of marketing, a new position for the company. Prior to joining Southern, Lenhart held roles with Widget Home as vice president of sales and marketing and at Universal Furniture as marketing coordinator. In her role with Southern, she will be responsible for the development of a consistent brand message to be delivered across multiple platforms—advertising, public relations, internet, and other consumer touch points.

The company said it added the position because it wished to strategically refocus its residential business and emphasize Southern's position as a design leader in the home furnishings industry.

“Susan adds valuable skill sets to our team. She brings extensive experience in marketing, business development, and project management that strengthen our ability to serve the present and emerging needs of our expanding customer base,” said Wright.
