Williams-Sonoma Names New Chief Technology Officer

Retailer Williams-Sonoma (NYSE: WSM) said it has hired former Macy’s and Wal-Mart executive Yasir Anwar as chief technology officer.

Reporting to Laura Alber, the company’s president and CEO, Anwar will lead all technology aspects of the company’s digital experience, retail stores, and supply chain, and will oversee the company’s Outward, Inc. subsidiary.

Anwar most recently served as chief technology officer at Macy’s, where he had also held various leadership roles in digital technology and engineering. Prior to joining Macy’s, he served as the head of platform engineering at Walmart Labs, and also was the head of engineering for Samsclub.com and led architecture for Walmart.com.

“We are thrilled to welcome Yasir to our executive team,” said Alber. “At Williams-Sonoma, Inc., technology is at the center of our vision to enhance people’s lives at home. With his strong engineering and digital background, Yasir will accelerate our initiatives to improve customer satisfaction in all channels and drive supply chain efficiencies.”

“His deep understanding of e-commerce combined with his innovative and collaborative spirit are ideal for leading our technology strategies and teams,” she added.

Anwar said, “I am excited to join Williams-Sonoma, Inc., a company that I believe truly values the importance of technology as a foundation for success. I look forward to applying my learnings, passion, and drive for technology to propel our customer experience to the next level.”
