The mobility patterns of homeowners and renters are very similar, with the vast majority of each group choosing to move within the same county, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s Current Population Survey 2016.
The report showed that 60.7 percent of movers from owner-occupied units and 61.7 percent of movers who were renters chose to stay within the same county.
A higher percentage of homeowners moved to a different county within the same state (25.2 percent) versus 19.7 percent of movers that rented in the same year.
